Bridgend
Bridgend covers an unusually wide range of property for one town, and the EV job changes completely depending on which part you are in. Broadlands, Coity and the newer developments tend to be simple: modern boards, spare capacity, parking beside the house. Half-day installs, minimal disruption.
The older terraced streets closer to the town centre, and the post-war stock out towards Litchard and Pen-y-Fai, throw up the two classic complications. First, the meter and board are often at the opposite end of the house from where the car parks, so the cable run is the real cost driver rather than the charger. Second, a good number of those boards are old enough that they have no spare protected way, which means board work before charger work.
Neither is a reason not to do it, and neither should be a surprise on the day. Aled surveys first, tells you the honest number including any board work, and only then do you decide. If the consumer unit does need replacing it is from £700 + VAT and it is quoted separately so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
What is included
It starts with a message. Tell Aled your car, your energy tariff and where you park, and send a photo of your fuse board if you can. That is usually enough for a straight price. Where it is not, he comes out and looks, and the price you get in writing is the price that stands.
Before the charger goes on the wall, two things get checked: whether your consumer unit has a spare, properly protected way, and your main supply fuse. On older Bridgend homes it is often that supply fuse, not the board, that limits the charger. Home chargers also have to be notified to the local network operator, which in South Wales is National Grid Electricity Distribution, and that is handled as part of the job.
On the day, Aled mounts the charger, runs the cable from the board, fits the protection on a dedicated circuit, tests everything and sets the charger up on your phone with you before he leaves. You get the Electrical Installation Certificate, and because Renovolt is NAPIT registered the work is self-certified and notified to building control without you paying an inspector.
For almost every house a 7kW charger is the right choice. It is the most a normal single-phase supply can comfortably give a car, and it refills most EVs overnight. After that it comes down to how you live: the Zappi is for people with solar panels, the Ohme suits a cheap overnight tariff, and Tesla owners often pick the Tesla Wall Connector.
Aled is not tied to any one maker, so the recommendation is about your car, your tariff and your house. The EV charger brands compared guide sets the main options side by side, and what a home EV charger costs explains what moves the price.
Need something else doing while he is there, such as a new fuse board, outdoor power or a fault that has been bugging you? He covers the lot as your electrician in Bridgend, so it can be priced in the same visit.

Read all 45 reviewsReally happy with the EV charger install, turned up on time, very neat job and explained everything clearly. Would definitely recommend!
Aled fitted a car charger for me last minute as my car was arriving early. All done very quickly and a neat job. Would definitely recommend
Excellent service, very good communication and perseverance despite a terrible internet connection at my house to the EV charger and a broken component that made the job harder than it should have been. I heartily recommend this company. Great web site as well made it easy to engage. 5 stars
Bridgend questions, answered
From £900 + VAT (£1,080 inc VAT) fully fitted for a standard installation. The main variables are cable run length and whether your consumer unit can take a new protected circuit. Both are established before the work is booked and priced in writing.
All of it: Broadlands, Coity, Litchard, Pen-y-Fai, Brackla, Bryntirion, Wildmill and the town centre, plus the surrounding villages. Bridgend is ten minutes from base in Pencoed.
Tesla, Ohme, Hypervolt, Zappi, Pod Point and BG Sync, plus others on request. Tell Aled your car and your energy supplier and he will recommend one, with no tie to any brand.
Almost always, but the board usually needs replacing first so the charger has a dedicated, properly protected circuit. That is from £700 + VAT, quoted separately and up front so you can see exactly what each part costs.
A standard install is half a day. A long cable run or a consumer unit replacement alongside it makes it a full day. You are told which before the work is booked.
You need off-street parking next to the house, such as a driveway or a private space. The charger is mounted on a wall or post on your property. A cable trailing across a public pavement is a trip hazard and is not something a home installation can provide.
Yes. Home chargers have to be notified to the local network operator, which in South Wales is National Grid Electricity Distribution. That is handled as part of the job, and your main supply fuse is checked at the same time.
No. A charger needs a new dedicated circuit from your fuse board, which is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations. DIY leaves you with no certificate, which can void the charger warranty and cause trouble with a home insurance claim or when you sell the house.
Tell Aled what you need and you will get a straight answer, a same-day callback and a written quote within 24 hours. No call centre, no subcontractor.
