So every Renovolt install starts with a proper fuse-board health check, included in the price. If the board is fine, you hear that. If it is not, you get the straight number for doing both in one visit — a new 18th-edition board from £700 + VAT — instead of paying a second call-out later.

No, not legally. Fitting a charger means running a new dedicated circuit from your fuse board, which is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations. DIY leaves you with no certificate, which can void the charger warranty, cause trouble with a home insurance claim and come up when you sell the house.
Most home chargers are fitted in a single day. Aled mounts the charger, runs the cable from your fuse board, fits the protection, tests everything and sets the charger up with you before he leaves. A long cable run or a fuse board that needs upgrading first can add time, and he tells you that before you book.
It is worth telling them. Most insurers simply want to know about permanent changes to the house, and some ask whether the charger was professionally installed. Keep the electrical installation certificate Aled gives you, because that is the proof an insurer will look for if you ever need to claim.
You can, with the three-pin cable that comes with most cars, but it is slow and best kept for occasional use. A standard socket was not designed to carry a heavy load for twelve hours every night, and that is how plugs and sockets overheat. Yes. Home chargers have to be notified to the local network operator, which in South Wales is National Grid Electricity Distribution. You need off-street parking next to the house, such as a driveway or private space. The charger is mounted on a wall or post on your property and the car plugs in there. A cable trailing across a public pavement is a trip hazard and is not something a home installation can provide.
